A Garage Innovation: The Rise of Dab-A-Do
Chalmette, Louisiana - In the 1970s, Tom Brownfield Sr. embarked on a quest that would revolutionize the hand cleaning industry. From a humble garage in Chalmette, Louisiana, Brownfield developed Dab-A-Do, a hand cleaner that started as a solution to a sticky problem at his workplace, the American Can Company. Faced with the challenge of removing industrial glue from the hands of his fellow workers, Brownfield utilized a meticulous trial-and-error process. The result was a highly effective hand cleaner formula that quickly gained popularity. However, the closure of the American Can Company in New Orleans left Brownfield without an income, propelling him to take his innovation to the local automotive repair shops. His product was an immediate success. Over the decades, Dab-A-Do evolved from a garage-born idea into a reputable company, manufacturing an array of heavy-duty hand cleaners and industrial-grade degreasers.
A significant milestone came in 2006, when the company acquired Chemprime Rust Converter and Inhibitor, a trusted product in the oilfield and paint industries for nearly 70 years.
